In anticipation of possible art shows and opportunities to display artwork, we like to hold onto student artwork. But I don't want you to miss out on the opportunity to see and celebrate what we do in art class, so this will be an online gallery. All artwork will be sent home with students by the end of the year. |
2nd Grade Self Portraits
Following introduction to our first unit, Color, our 2nd grade students were asked to put what they learned to the test. After carefully drawing self-portraits, each student chose the colors they wished to use and painted their portraits with tempera paint.
2nd Grade Culture Mandalas
For this project, our 2nd Grade students combined Art, Math, and Social Studies to create these beautiful Mandalas. A mandala, a perfectly circular artwork that shows Radial Symmetry, requires close attention and math skills. Students first chose an inspiration culture from four options: Islamic Art, Native American Art, Mexican Art, or Aboriginal Art. They could only use the lines and colors used by their inspiration culture, so that added a challenge to the project! Each Mandala turned out unique and beautiful in its own way.
